Privacy Policy for Shumway SEO Toolkit
Shumway SEO Toolkit is an extension for on-page SEO inspection. It is designed to be private by default, local-first, and lightweight.
Data The Extension Handles
Shumway SEO Toolkit reads website content from the active browser tab only when you open or use the extension.
This may include SEO-related page data such as:
- Page title and meta description
- Current URL and canonical URL
- Headings
- Links
- Images and image attributes
- Structured data, including JSON-LD, Microdata, and RDFa
- Open Graph and X/Twitter metadata
- Robots meta and X-Robots-Tag information
- Fonts, colors, CSS variables, and stylesheets
- Lightweight browser performance signals where available
- Core Web Vitals and performance diagnostics shown in the Web Vitals workspace
This data is used only to display on-page SEO information, provide copy tools, generate local exports, and display optional performance data.
Data Collection
Shumway SEO Toolkit does not collect or store user data on Shumway or Swifthog servers. It does not sell, transmit, or share user data with the developer, advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or any other third parties.
The extension does not use:
- Analytics
- Tracking pixels
- Remote logging
- Advertising identifiers
- User accounts
- Background crawling
- Third-party data collection APIs
Local Settings
The extension may store local preferences in browser extension storage so settings persist between sessions. These settings remain in the user's browser unless the user changes them, resets the extension, or uninstalls the extension.
Shumway SEO Toolkit does not transmit local settings to a Shumway or Swifthog server.
Local Processing
Core page analysis happens locally in the user's browser. The extension does not send page audit data to a Shumway or Swifthog server.
Exports such as CSV, TSV, JSON, Markdown, and image ZIP files are generated locally from the current page. Exported files are saved only when the user chooses to download them.
Web Vitals And Google Performance APIs
The Web Vitals workspace can request Google Chrome UX Report (CrUX) and PageSpeed Insights data for the current URL. CrUX provides aggregated real-user field data where Google has enough Chrome usage data. PageSpeed Insights provides synthetic Lighthouse lab diagnostics from Google servers.
Remote Web Vitals responses are cached in browser storage to reduce repeat API calls. CrUX responses are cached for 24 hours, and PageSpeed Insights responses are cached for one hour. Users can use the Web Vitals Refresh action to request fresh remote performance data.
These requests go to Google API endpoints, not to Shumway or Swifthog servers. Google's handling of those API requests is governed by Google's own policies.
External Links And Third-Party Sites
Some buttons open external websites, such as Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs, Archive.org, Moz, Semrush, Similarweb, Schema Validator, Rich Results Test, PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, DebugBear, GTmetrix, Buy Me a Coffee, PayPal, Venmo, or cryptocurrency wallet links.
These sites are opened only when the user clicks the relevant button. Shumway SEO Toolkit does not send data to these services in the background.
Any information entered into or shared with those third-party sites is governed by their own privacy policies.
Payments And Donations
Optional donation links may open third-party payment services. Shumway SEO Toolkit does not process payments, collect payment information, or store donation details.
Permissions
Shumway SEO Toolkit requests permissions only to support its stated SEO functionality, such as reading the active tab when used, injecting the extension's inspection script into the active tab, opening context-menu actions, generating downloads, saving local preferences, and optionally toggling site JavaScript settings when requested by the user.
Data Sharing
Shumway SEO Toolkit does not share user data with the developer, advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or any other third parties.
Limited Use Disclosure
The use of information received from browser APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children's Privacy
Shumway SEO Toolkit is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes To This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data handling changes. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
